The Fifth Toy Story Film Teaser Pits The Beloved Duo Against a Tablet Computer
It has been 30 years after the original Toy Story film debuted, launching the animation giant as a leading film company and introducing viewers to iconic characters like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.
In 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed this week, offering a brief look into the plot but keeping fans wondering how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
The Latest Addition: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Toys
In the teaser shows the young girl — who received the toy collection when he left for college — receiving a brand new toy, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. Bonnie gets her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.
Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the characters seem to view it as a threat coming to replace them, which it probably is.
Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
An element the teaser doesn't touch on is why Woody is returned with his friends in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a new adventure with the shepherdess (the actress), journeying with a fair and helping prize toys locate loving owners.
Certainly, the filmmakers will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him appear in the familiar setting without warning is a little strange, though. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have returned with Woody. And what about Duke Caboom (the star)?
Continuity from the Previous Film
Fortunately, some elements are carrying over from the prior film. The final act the cowboy did before setting off for his fresh path was hand over his sheriff badge to Jessie (the voice actor), entrusting her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser displays the badge pinned to her shirt.
It is hoped she is still the driving force among the group.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on the scheduled date.
