Senate Greenlights Legislation to Make Public Jeffrey Epstein Documents

The upper chamber of Congress on this Tuesday quickly approved to legislation that will mandate the disclosure of case documents concerning the late pedophile Jeffrey Epstein, following a overwhelming vote in the House of Representatives and a change of position by Donald Trump and his GOP allies. Trump's team relented after months of trying to delay the bipartisan effort involving a controversy that has followed the president since his return to the White House.

Swift Passage in Both Chambers

The Senate acted by unanimous consent, which requires approval from each senator but does not require a individual voting process, accelerating the process. Hours earlier, the House passed by a huge margin the bill on a 427-1 tally.

“The American people have been patient long enough. Jeffrey Epstein’s victims have waited long enough,” the Senate Democratic leader declared in a floor speech on Tuesday, before urging the chamber to approve it without opposition. “Reveal the truth. Let transparency reign.”

Presidential Signature

This legislation next will be sent to Donald Trump for his signature. He stated on Monday that he would endorse the legislation.

Though Trump has for an extended period downplayed the controversy over the authorities' approach of the Epstein case as a “political stunt”, he expressed his backing for the measure over the weekend, and stated he would give his assent if it reaches his desk.

Support and Opposition

The Democratic party, along with those affected and their representatives who were present in a public section, cheered after the bill was enacted. The only opposition came from a GOP representative, who said he worried the measure would disclose identifying details of individuals involved, persons of interest and others caught up in the investigation.
