French officials have consented to start stopping migrant vessels in the Channel, following an extended period of insistence from the United Kingdom.
This policy shift follows the British leader sent a letter to the French leader asking him to support the plan and stating there presently "lack any effective preventive measure" in the maritime passage.
French security forces have been authorized to stop the migrant vessels at sea, but exclusively prior to they've picked up their migrants, according to authoritative confirmation.
French police have rarely intervened to prevent the overcrowded boats departing from the coastline because it is viewed as too great a risk to both officers and civilians.
"It is crucial that we deploy these methods this period... We have no effective prevention in the Channel."
Currently, a French naval police spokesperson states personnel will start intervening at sea, with the objective of protecting lives.
Significantly, the spokesperson excluded the use of entanglement devices to intercept boats, which had previously been suggested as a possible method to snarl the propellers of the boats.
The decision to intervene at all is a major step forward, following a brief change towards a stricter strategy this warmer season, which dropped off when the previous Interior Minister left office.
