Critical Role Season Four Unveils the Warriors Party

Since the launch of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master the talented storyteller has kept viewers on edge with deep backstory, a colorful mix of characters, and a exciting storyline showcasing angels, demons, and dark forces growing in influence within the urban setting.

Heads-up: Spoilers for Episode 3 of Campaign 4 follow below.

The Warrior Group Unveiled

The third episode concluded with a dramatic pause and introduced the premier party of heroes who will split off from the main group to undertake their independent quest, separate from the additional parties.

The combat-focused team consists of the determined fighter (brought to life by Travis Willingham), the agile character (Laura), the strong-willed figure (the cast member), Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie Daymond).

The Reason for Division

Considering 13 cast members, it was clear from the beginning that keeping everyone at one table would be unworkable.

Hence, the initial installments of this story serve as an Introduction, intertwining the personal journeys before branching into three distinct groups: Fighters, Strategists, and Explorers.

The Nature of the Combat Party

Per the DM, the warrior group is for players who are drawn to a typically action-packed battle-oriented gameplay experience where diplomatic options are rare.

At first glance, figures such as the hesitant healer Wicander might seem mismatched, but the events of the third episode show why these specific adventurers are best suited for the Soldiers table.

Why They Must Go

First, the party understands precisely where to head next after a violent first encounter with The Crow Keepers.

Casimir of Thjazi—whose passing started the campaign’s events—manipulated the foes for his personal gain, entering Thjazi’s hideout, striking the character, and swiping all the enchanted items to dispose of.

The antagonist then settled his liabilities and ran away to a fortified location in the northern region, north of the city, with Cyd Pridesire pursuing him.

Individual Reasons

Moreover, each member has a personal reason to exit the urban setting:

  • The rogue, as the companion and best friend, wants retribution.
  • Kattigan knows the northern area and cautions that it is a hostile location.
  • The warrior and The healer, having resisted his relatives’ demands to kill Teor and instead rescued him, have no other options.
  • However, their position as important members in House Halovar could assist the party reach locations they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Furthermore, Teor vowed a unbreakable promise to The cleric for his salvation and will now accompany him anywhere.

Fugitives

Finally, all of them are sought by the authorities that control the setting for a range of causes, making lingering locally dangerous:

  • The rogue and The character are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The strong figure and The cleric defied the powerful family and the legion of demons they are allied with.
  • The fighter is wanted dead by House Halovar.

This leaves them no alternative but to head to the remote area in search of the antagonist.

Future Episodes

According to the recent installment’s Cooldown, we discover that the Soldiers table won’t be around in the upcoming installment, leaving the rest of the players to assemble the Explorers and Strategists groups.

Audiences can expect learning which characters will be where in Campaign 4’s concluding setup installment, streaming live on the upcoming Thursday.
