Christantus Uche Ignites Straightforward Crystal Palace Victory at Irish Side Shelbourne.
Even though embarking on their first-ever continental campaign, Crystal Palace are learning at a rapid pace. Without star players like forward Jean-Philippe Mateta and defender Daniel Muñoz, the London club departed Dublin with a commanding result that all but secures them a spot in the Conference League qualifying rounds.
A further three points in their upcoming fixture against Finland's KuPS should be sufficient to seal direct entry to the last 16, particularly following a previous stumble against Strasbourg.
Fringe Players Seize the Moment
This match provided a platform for several Palace's lesser-used players to shine. Christantus Uche, in only his second start after arriving on loan from Getafe, opened the account with a clinical goal. Forward Eddie Nketiah contributed a another, finding the net for the second game in succession.
The Shelbourne team that had finished their domestic season were outmatched even for a mostly rotated Palace lineup. The visitors were already weakened by the news that Mateta and Muñoz are out with knee injuries.
Dominance Asserted from the Start
In spite of heavy rain in Dublin, Palace rapidly established dominance. A slick passing sequence in the 11th minute, sparked by Daichi Kamada's incisive pass, allowed Nketiah to lay on Uche for a straightforward tap-in.
Youngster Adam Wharton went close soon after, driving a long-range shot over the bar. Nketiah subsequently claimed for a penalty after bursting into the box, but the official dismissed the appeals.
Ex-Arsenal man did not have wait long to get his goal, tapping home from close range after Uche's effort had struck the post.
The home side were hanging on desperately. Full-back Kameron Ledwidge was fortunate to escape a booking for two agricultural tackles on Yeremy Pino, before Chris Richards struck the crossbar with a header from a corner.

The contest was as good as over eight minutes from half-time. Yeremy Pino meandered past some comically weak challenges before coolly dispatching a shot past goalkeeper Wessel Speel to extend the lead to 3-0.
After the break, coach Oliver Glasner seized the opportunity to withdraw several players like Kamada and Wharton. Substitute Romain Esse came close to scoring his very first touch, but saw his shot blocked.
The youngster was desperately unlucky later on, seeing one attempt crash off both posts before being clasped on the line. Uche then missed a glaring chance, indicating there is still scope for development in his game.
The only worry for Palace was a late injury to Justin Devenny, who was forced off. This paved the way for 17-year-old striker Benji Casey to earn his first-team debut, capping an otherwise positive night for the traveling side.
